MUSICAL MONDAY #22: HALL PASS TO HELL

So what’s “Musical Monday”? Just pick the book you’re currently reading and#40;or just finishedand#41;, then think of a song or album that best matches the book. Even hitting shuffle on your musical player will do the trick. I don’t know about you, but songs pop into my head all the time when reading books, or the perfect song will start playing while reading it and it feels like two atoms exploding in my brain! Plus, it’s a fun way to introduce artists that others might not know about. The Book: Highway to Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore The Song: Katrinah Josephina by Universal Hall Pass -or- The Reason: You know, Maggie deals with so much evil, and this song plopped into my lap right as I was finishing reading Highway to Hell. Both are hypnotic, deal with demons, and have a great ending. What could be better? If you have a “Musical Monday” post, I’d love to hear about it! Post your link below! MY FIRST FINAL FOUR

Generally when I go to a women’s sporting event, I’m sitting on press row reporting on the competition or on the sidelines taking photographs. Rarely do I get to attend a game – no less a championship game – as a fan. Well I got that chance last week in Indianapolis when I was in town for the NCAA Women’s Final Four basketball championship. Thanks to @anngaff,  who was doing the heavy lifting on press row, handling the post-game press conferences and locker room interviews for WomenTalkSports.com, I got to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the final game as a women’s basketball fan. I’d never attended a ‘s Final Four in person so was excited to see what all the hoopla was about.  The atmosphere throughout the downtown area, from the convention center which hosted Tourney Town to the Conseco Field House where the championship games were played, was buzzing with fans who traveled from Texas, Connecticut, California and nearby South Bend. Most fans had filled out their [Read More]

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HONORS JOAN BAEZ FOR A LIFETIME OF HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY

Amnesty International turns 50 this year, and closely linked to Amnesty’s legacy of championing human rights is that of folk legend Joan Baez. Baez was an active supporter of Amnesty from the start, stuffing envelopes at their first home office in San Francisco– not coincidentally, where this year’s Annual General Meeting is being held. This Friday, as part of their anniversary AGM, Joan Baez will be honored for a lifetime of human rights solidarity and advocacy. Her receiving the award also marks an exciting beginning, as it will establish the Amnesty International Joan Baez Award for Outstanding, Inspirational Service in the Global Fight for Human Rights. The award will be given to artists – working in music, film, fine arts or other media – who similarly contribute to the advancement of human rights. Baez will be presented with the first award in recognition of her historic, ground-breaking and courageous human rights work with Amnesty International and beyond, and the [Read More]

The Book: The Pleasure of My Company by Steve Martin The Song: Genius Next Door by Regina Spektor -or- Click here for an alternate link! The Reason: The song has such a sad tune and even though the words DO NOT match the book, the melody does. Plus, it has “genius” in the title. Cop out, but whateves. AUDI SAYS "GOODNIGHT MOON" DURING THE SUPER BOWL

Most of us watch the Super Bowl for the commercials as much as for the game, if not more so.  This year, Audi's new add titled "Goodnight" will be one of the more memorable ones from the evening.  The spot will follow a storyline pretty familiar to us all - the plot of the acclaimed children's book Goodnight Moon, while taking the viewer on a journey through a traditional-style mansion laden with expensive knick-knacks and extravagant, indulgent keepsakes. The spot says goodnight to each item in the lavish home, in effect bidding a fond farewell to the age of "old luxury," defined by gluttony and excess, and features the all-new 2011 Audi A8 flagship sedan along with the slogan, "Luxury has progressed." I look forward to seeing it - it certainly sounds like it'll have quite a bit of impact.  I'll post the spot here on the AP blog once it's made its debut with reaction and discussion, so look for that post on Monday! GILLIAN ZINSER IS 90210′S SURF GODDESS

You might know actress Gillian Amalia Zinser and#40;@msgillianzinserand#41; as 90210’s surf goddess Ivy Sullivan.  She attended NYU and played a recurring role in the CW drama before being  signed as a regular cast member for the third season of the show. Ever the SoCal poster child— Zinser is perpetually shown in cutoffs with her board in tow. So what does this bi-coastal gal do when she isn’t playing a surfer girl on TV? She surfs. And that’s not the only similarity between the actress and her alter ego. “I share a lot of Ivy’s free-spirited attitude, her joie de vivre,” says Zinser. FOAM Magazine sat the actress down to talk about healthy living, perfect days on the water, and her trip to Haiti working with Artists for Peace and Justice. Foam: We hear you’re really into surfing. What do you love most about being out on the water? Gillian Zinser: The humbling effect of being alone in the ocean. I love the peaceful feeling of being away from everything and everyone [Read More]
