AUTHOR INTERVIEW AND CONTEST!: KIMBERLY PAULEY
To celebrate the soon to be released paperback copy of Still Sucks to Be Me and#40;coming July 12, 2011and#41; author Kimberly Pauley has stopped by to answer some questions! All hail the awesome that is Kimberly! Mina is such a fun character, how did you come up with the “my parents are vampires and want me dead… undead” concept? I really started with Mina. She had a strong voice in my head. Then I wanted to do something where I basically upended the “standard” vampire myths. You have to realize I wrote the first book back before Twilight and#40;and a slew of other booksand#41; came out. I had no idea the vampire thing was going to explode the way it did. Do you have any books on the horizon? What are they about? Yes! I’m very excited to announce that I have a new book coming out in Spring 2012 called “Cat Girl’s Day Off” Woot! It’s coming out from Tu Books, a new imprint of Lee and Low. It’s about a teenage girl who can talk to cats and#40;yes, you read that rightand#41; [Read More]published June 21, 2011 at 3:42pm CDT

MUSICAL MONDAY #22: HALL PASS TO HELL
So what’s “Musical Monday”? Just pick the book you’re currently reading and#40;or just finishedand#41;, then think of a song or album that best matches the book. Even hitting shuffle on your musical player will do the trick. I don’t know about you, but songs pop into my head all the time when reading books, or the perfect song will start playing while reading it and it feels like two atoms exploding in my brain! Plus, it’s a fun way to introduce artists that others might not know about. The Book: Highway to Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore The Song: Katrinah Josephina by Universal Hall Pass -or- The Reason: You know, Maggie deals with so much evil, and this song plopped into my lap right as I was finishing reading Highway to Hell. Both are hypnotic, deal with demons, and have a great ending. What could be better? If you have a “Musical Monday” post, I’d love to hear about it! Post your link below! BOOK REVIEW: HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF
Author: Molly Harper Pages: 371 Series: Naked Werewolf #1 Date Started: 5/6/11 Date Finished: 5/7/11 Simple Summary: Mo has moved to the small Alaskan town of Grundy and met resident grumpy pants and uber hunk, Cooper Graham. After hitting it off and#40;in the sackand#41; and finding her lover is a werewolf, Cooper questions if he is responsible for recent the wolf attacks. Will Mo’s love be strong enough to convince him he’s not and be able to find the real culprit? Rating: ★★★★☆ My Review: A fun romp that will practically make you laugh your pants off, Harper provides a quirky twist on the werewolf genre. With a full cast of likable characters, Harper fills Grundy with a variety of crazy and humorous residents — Mo being the most delightful to read about. A little heavy on the sex scenes, How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf will not be everyone’s cup of tea but fans of chick-lit, humor, and the whole werewolf angle will be entertained. AUTHOR INTERVIEW: JANET GURTLER
The fabulous Janet Gurtler who’s book, I’m Not Her, just hit shelves May 1! She was kind enough to stop by and answer a few questions. Describe I’m Not Her in five words or less. Emotional journey of self-discovery. What inspired you to write I’m Not Her? I wanted to look at what would happen when someone who is perfect and has everything and#40;on the outsideand#41; suddenly has it drastically taken away. And what happens when family roles are suddenly altered or reversed. I remember envying others when I was a teen and wanted to look beneath the illusion of “perfect”. I’m Not Her is about two sisters finding their way through a tragic event. Did you draw from experience with Tracey and#40;your sisterand#41; the dynamic between Tess and Kristina? I was kind of shy around Tracey when we were teens. She was three years older than me and so much more sophisticated back then. THAT changes drastically ha ha just kidding. Tracey was taller and thinner and#40;still isand#41; and I en [Read More]published May 11, 2011 at 2:45pm CDT

BOOK REVIEW: THE PLEASURE OF MY COMPANY
Author: Steve Martin Pages: 176 Date Started: 2/7/11 Date Finished: 2/10/11 Simple Summary: Due to various fears and neuroses Daniel Cambridge is confined to his one bedroom Santa Monica apartment… and a very strange route to the Rite Aid. Through various interactions and occurrences Daniel finds his place in the world — and out of his own. Rating: ★★★★☆ My Review: If you had asked me six years ago how I would rate this book you would have been caught in the hurricane of my rapture. But as the years pass and you come back to a book and sometimes you are a different person, reading with new outlooks and perspectives. Mind you, I was doing a semester at SMC when I read it too. and#40;Can you guess my age now? *wiggles eyebrows*and#41; But now I actually payed attention to the book and started to find that the writing dragged. Still slightly comical, I found the book to be far more morose and … heartbreaking. Daniel, for his reasons, has cut himself off from the world, yet [Read More]published March 1, 2011 at 12:01pm CST
