If you take road trips with pets, then you'll want to read this informative blog that gives hope to everyone else out there whose dogs suffer severe anxiety in hotel rooms. Author Robyn Larson McCarthy devotes an entire post to the subject of her dog Chaucer's "happy pills" -- not because they're a daily essential for him --anymore-- but to give hope to everyone else out there whose dogs get wacky on the road. Are you a single woman looking for Mr. Right? Forget online dating, the awkward blind date, or scouring the grocery-store aisles for single guys. There's an untapped resource right at your fingertips - your car. But if we're to believe that the right car will snag you a winner, Jalopnik says the wrong car could make you a loser and offers the ten to avoid. Girl power! Interested in car-sharing plans? Well, TheCarConnection has information on U-Haul's U Car Share car-sharing service, which recently added more fuel-efficient vehicles, such as the Toyota Prius, Ford Focus, Toyota Yaris, MINI Cooper, and Ford Escape Hybrid. Car-sharing first emerged on a significant scale in Europe in the 1990s but wasn't a viable option in the U.S. until earlier this decade. U Haul's service is a relatively minor player so far; Cambridge, Massachusets-based Zipcar is now the largest in the world and covering many markets in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. Hybrid Cars shared this treasure of girlie delight shown at a showroom in Tokyo last week. With the "DecoPrius," a candy-apple red custom Toyota Prius emblazoned with decorative rhinestones, the carmaker hopes to catch the eye of a demographic that is growing increasingly cold to a product that once exemplified cool: the automobile. Though there's no indication that Toyota will be offering a Deco-edition Prius for sale anytime soon, the company's Scion nameplate has been aggressively marketing younger with customized vehicles for a few years. The fine folks at A+ Japanese Auto Repair in San Carlos, California, are once again sponsoring the Heart Walk with the American Heart Association this year! The 2009 Start! San Mateo County Heart Walk emphasizes the importance of walking as a heart healthy exercise, while raising awareness of cardiovascular disease and stroke, the number one and number three killers of men and women. On September 16 and 20, A+ Japanese Auto Repair joins more than 60 corporations located in San Mateo County to raise funds to help the American Heart Association in its fight against heart disease and stroke. Sam Lancaster of Jon Lancaster Toyota recently participated in a 150-mile, two-day bike ride from Pewaukee to Madison to support the National MS Society. Last year, more than 1,600 cyclists and volunteers participated in this event to raise more than $1.5 million in the fight against multiple sclerosis (MS). In his journal of the grueling ride, Sam recounted advice given to him by a 61-year-old veteran of 11 rides, who told him "Don't give up, the people who have MS, they don't give up." Sam said of the event, "That was my pure motivation, not only for that day, but also for day two. I saw every kind of rider, racers, comfort bikes, touring bikes, recumbent, and tandems. I overheard riders talk about their MS and how it was not going to keep them off their bike. I saw a person who had a mechanical titanium leg, a person with two crutches to help with walking, and the best part was that I saw them on the course peddling away. I met a person who was a cancer survivor. I met so many wonderful people.... On day two, as I hit mile 85 I realized this was the longest bike ride I have ever done in two days, later that day I finished 135 miles in the saddle. My legs were on fire, my backside was sore, and my eyes teared. It was an emotional ride. The best part was peddling finishing, while people I had no connection to clapped and rang cow bells and blasted air horns." What an excellent experience to share!
