Developing male allies in your male-dominated field

The CalWomenTech Project has archived a Podcast on "Developing Male Allies in Your Male-Dominated Field" with Lori Johnson, President of Ladies Start Your Engines, an automotive class for women. In this informative 20-minute interview Lori shares tips to assist women with developing professional relationships with men in automotive technology as well as gives advice on how they can advance their career. She also gives tips on networking at industry events and clearly describing your career goals to expand your peer group connections.

 Whether you're buying a car, buying parts, taking a car in for service, or trying to find a position in the automotive industry, Lori believes that having male allies will help women be better prepared and demonstrate greater confidence when dealing with their automotive interests.

Lori is an AskPatty Automotive Expert Advisor,  and is also President of her own business "Ladies, Start Your Engines!"  an automotive maintenance class for women.

Lori teaches her class using venues such as automotive dealerships, colleges, local adult education centers, and women's organizations. She enjoys empowering women with automotive knowledge so that they can feel confident when servicing or purchasing parts for their vehicles and she helps them become a more informed consumer.

Lori has earned certificates in Automotive Technology from Pennco Tech and in Client Server Technology from Penn State University. She has an A.A.S. degree in Automotive Technology and a B.A. in Women's Studies/Sociology from Temple University.

When she's not teaching you can find her riding her Harley Davidson Heritage Softail.
