Music: Top albums worth saving for
The decade following 2000 was filled with a plethora of music shockers, from American Idol cliffhangers to Michael Jackson’s unfortunate death. Americans no longer find themselves using CD players to jam out to their favorite tunes; the introduction of the MP3 player and iPod has brought that to a creeping halt. Here is a list of ChickSpeak’s predicted top five albums set to drop in what is sure to the be the start of another unforgettable ten years. If there is one thing Ke$ha is, it’s not your typical girl. From childhood, she’s showcased her performing talents to anyone willing to watch, starting with dashing around family parties covered in body paint and belting out silly lyrics to most recently sneaking into Prince’s house and secretly slipping him her demo CD. Animal, her debut album, truly shows that raunchy lyrics aren’t only for men; in “Blah Blah Blah“, she explains “Turn around, boy, let me hit that / Don’t be a little b*tch with your chit chat / Just show me where you’re d*ck’s at.” The rest of the album is also filled with salacious but catchy anthems; check out “Tik Tok“, “D.I.N.O.S.A.U.R.” and “Party at a Rich Dude’s House“. Label: RCA Records Release Date: January 5 In his sixth studio album, Usher teamed up with Ne-Yo, The Neptunes and Adam Levine to produce a masterpiece. Despite the somber cover art, Usher promises to wow his audience once again with songs like “Papers,” which was No. 2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a while, “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)”, and “Certified”. There has been some controversy over Raymond v. Raymond, as the release date was pushed from December 21 to February 21 to finally March 1. According to Usher’s rep, “This is a solid album that we believe in. We want to give it a proper launch.” Label: Jive Label Group Release Date: March 1 Bionic - Christina Aguilera Christina Aguilera vows to present a new side of herself in her fourth album, saying that it is “short, sweet and completely different [than any of her other works]” This album is the first after Aguilera’s pregnancy with her son, Max, who she says inspired her songs. Bionic follows 2006’s popular album Back to Basics. This time, Christina partnered with Goldfrapp, Ladytron, M.I.A. and Flo-Rida to produce songs such as “Glam”, “Lullaby” and “You Lost Me”. Label: RCA Records Release Date: March Relapse 2 - Eminem Relapse 2 is Eminem’s highly anticipated follow-up album to 2009’s Relapse, which sold over 1.7 million copies in the U.S. It was originally scheduled to release in late 2009 after Relapse, which was released on May 15, 2009, but was disappointingly pushed back to 2010. During an interview, Emimem explained, “[The album] is very close to being finished, it just depends on how many songs I want to put on it.” He also confirmed that he would be rapping with 50 Cent on the album. In the past, Eminem has awed listeners with songs such as “Crack a Bottle,” “Without Me,” and “Lose Yourself.” This time, audiences should check out “Insult to Injury” and “The Warning,” a Mariah Carey diss record. Label: Interscope Release Date: TBA Behave Yourself - Cold War Kids According to Prefix Magazine, “Listening to Cold War Kids is like hearing a schizophrenic ramble: Mexican dogs, hospital beds, mud covered linens…you almost don’t care that you have no idea what Nathan Willett is wailing about.” It couldn’t have been explained better; on Cold War Kids’ EP album, recorded while fooling around in the studio for 2008’s Loyalty to Loyalty, the band continues to both shock and confuse fans with songs “Audience”, “Santa Ana Winds,” “Coffee Spoon” and “Sermons”. For a look into the band’s mind, check out Behave Yourself’s abstract cover art. Release Date: January 19, 2010 Maxine Frendel is a New Jersey-based freelance writer and avid music listener who probably spends way too much money on iTunes than she should. She is a self-proclaimed Lady Gaga fanatic, but this year’s Ke$ha album is sure to have her dancing up a storm.
