During the last few months, more than 4,600 fuel-efficient Olympic-branded vehicles have been a familiar sight on the streets of Vancouver and Whistler as they whisk athletes, Olympic officials, and international VIPs and dignitaries to and from competitions, victory ceremonies and celebrations. When the Paralympic Winter Games conclude in March, fans and consumers will have an opportunity to drive away with a piece of Vancouver 2010's legacy - and possibly the best Olympic souvenir of all - a Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac vehicle that may have been the one to drive an Olympic athlete to the performance of their life.

"Wherever I go during the Games, everyone wants to know what will happen to the vehicles once the events have wrapped up," said Tom Laurie, GM of Canada's manager of Olympic partnership. "We've been flooded with requests from Olympic revelers wanting to take home more than just a pair of red mittens. Canadians want to take advantage of this special opportunity to own a vehicle that was part of our country's Olympic legacy."

General Motors dealerships across Canada are already taking customer deposits on Olympic fleet vehicles, which will be ready for pick-up beginning in mid-March. Dealerships outside the area will bid on the remaining vehicles in an auction, and Canadian customers across the country are encouraged to contact their local dealer for details. All fleet vehicles will be specially priced and permanently marked with a commemorative Vancouver 2010 medallion adorned with the iconic inukshuk symbol and Olympic rings.

Available models include:

  • * Chevrolet Equinox, Malibu (Hybrid), Impala, Traverse, Suburban XL, Tahoe (Hybrid models available)
  • * Buick Lucerne, Enclave
  • * Cadillac DTS, CTS Sport Sedan AWD, CTS Sport Wagon AWD, Escalade AWD (Hybrid), SRX AWD
  • * GMC Acadia, Terrain, Yukon (Hybrid models available), Yukon XL

As the Official Vehicle Partner of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, GM of Canada is proudly providing 1,500 vehicles for the Paralympic Winter Games. The Paralympic vehicles will be made available for sale in April.

"The vehicle fleet was brought to life by the thousands of Vancouver 2010 volunteers who drove them," said Laurie. "As a 'thank you' to those 46,000 volunteers, GM has given them each a $1,000 credit towards the purchase of a GM vehicle."
