Brighten Up Your Home or Apartment for Spring

Warm weather and bright sunshine is around the corner, which means it’s time to get rid of the wintry tones and brighten up your home for spring.

With flowers blooming and plants coloring the outdoors green, the new season calls for redone spaces, bright lighting, gardens, and fresh paint.

Whether you are looking to completely rearrange your rooms or simply enliven up your home, here are a few tips to usher in the spring season:

Color and Light

One of the best ways to give your home a fresh tone is to change up the paint color of your rooms. According to Pantone the top five spring paint colors include Fuchsia Red, Salmon Rose, Palace Blue, Lucite Green, and Super Lemon. To paint a room, gather all your supplies, move or cover any furniture, remove any protrusions in the walls such as nails, and apply masking tape to any edges you won’t be painting, prime the walls, and then begin painting.

When opening the paint, shake the primer or paint vigorously and apply using a roller or paintbrush. If painting with a roller, dump the paint into the roller try, cover all sides of the roller with paint, spread the paint around and orient the handle to avoid conflicts with nearby surfaces. Roll the paint evenly over the wall. When painting with a brush, dip the paint into a can, start at the top of the wall and drag downward.

Spring Cleaning

A few quick and simple cleaning steps can freshen up your home as well. For example, cleaning your windows with a rubber edged squeegee in warm, soapy water can remove dirt streaks. Dusting light bulbs with a lamb’s wool cloth can also provide more light and give a brightened feel as well as washing window blinds.

Updating bed linens and changing up the direction of ceiling fans can redistribute warm air and adjust the look of a room. In addition, deep cleaning rugs and carpets as well as curtains refreshes a room. Household errands such as cleaning out a refrigerator and updating housekeeping tools can keep your home looking neat.

Natural Touches

An easy natural touch for around the house is a milk pail garden pot. Old-fashioned enamel milk pails are available at flea markets and any garden supply stores and can be filled with any fern of flower. The pots give off a rustic look and can be placed anywhere around your home or outside.

Other ideas to bring the outdoors into your home are eggshell vases with freshly cut flowers and grass blade candles. An eggshell vase full of flowers combines two of spring’s most vibrant elements together and tall grass blades painted or put onto pillar candles can accentuate other tones of green in the room. Using fabric markers and stencils, chicks can also make table linens out of patterned Indonesian textiles in vivid spring colors to add life to a set dinner table or for decoration on a coffee table.

Whether cleaning, painting, or decorating for spring, there are many easy tricks chicks can do to liven their homes for the new season. Spring projects such as making eggshell vases, linens, and milk pail garden pots can revive wintry, darker rooms and usher in the new sunshine.
