Planning the Ultimate Chicks-Only Getaway
Summer is quickly approaching and chicks in colleges across the country are getting ready for the upcoming months of internships, jobs, and, in some cases, summer classes. However, just because a chick’s summer schedule may not be as flexible as it was in the past, it doesn’t mean she can’t steal away for a little time for fun in the sun.And what better way to spend her time off than with her best girlfriends? The chicks-only vacation, featured in films like Crossroads and Sex and the City, has become a summer staple and a rite of passage for many chicks. While they do take a little planning and saving, these trips are bottomless well of opportunity for bonding, memories and the birth of traditions. First, decide whom you would like to go away with. This is probably the most crucial element of your girls-only weekend. Make sure to invite people who get along well and have no ill will towards each other. The last thing you want is for the fun to be spoiled by conflict and arguments. Next, pick a night to sit down with the other chicks you want to travel with and have a preliminary meeting to weigh out destination and cost options. Ask everyone where she would like to go and what she considers a feasible budget. Stuck on where exactly to go? A great source of information is Girlfriend Getaways. The website provides a wealth of destination recommendations and helpful tips on budgeting and planning. From spa weekends to beach getaways, there is a wide array of options to fit every group’s style and budget. If you and your friends are big Sex and the City fans, you may want to look into staying at one of the many New York City hotels that offer packages inspired by the television series and movies. While most include tickets for the Sex and the City Hotspots bus tour from On Location Tours, check out the Affinia Hotel, the New York Palace Hotel, and Hotel Gansevoort for exact details on individual packages. However, be aware that some packages are promotional and are only offered for a limited time. Also, make sure everyone brings her calendar to the meeting, so the official date can be set. While crowds are inevitable during the summer months, be sure to research peak travel times to avoid the worst of the rush. You may even score some discounts on airfare. Speaking of discounts, Girlfriend Getaways recommends joining the email lists of hotels, airlines, and attractions you are interested in order to receive insider deals only offered to list members. After all, any way you can alleviate costs will make putting your trip together much easier. Try to get everyone on the same page. Make sure everyone is able to express her opinions and concerns and be prepared to make a few compromises. One chick may want to rent a beach house, but a moderately priced hotel may more budget-friendly for others. Also, while you do want to include several group activities, make sure to leave time for individual activities. You all don’t need to do everything together all the time. However, always make sure to travel in groups when out at night and always have meet up places and times. When you finally finish with all the planning and arrive at your destination, remember to have fun! EHow encourages you to leave all worries and guilt at home and enjoy your time away with your girlfriends. Explore, try new things, and don’t forget to take tons of pictures. The whole point is to unwind and experience an incredible destination with your closest friends. Shannon Kirk is a junior Communication major at DeSales University in Center Valley, Penna.
