Kim Kardashian’s sweet-smelling fight against breast cancer

Kim Kardashian, one of the most glamorous and downright gorgeous women in Hollywood, has taken up arms in the fight against breast cancer. In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kim has turned to her closest and most trusted support group - her fans - to assist her in designing a new look for a limited edition rollerball fragrance that is scheduled for release this October.

This is not the first time Kim has turned to her fans for input. When her signature fragrance was still in the works, she asked readers to vote on the color of the bottle accents. Her fans ultimately decided on pink, which was then applied to the final product. Long before the fragrance was released, Kim was already promoting the perfume to her fans, keeping them updated on literally every detail, from how she was involved in choosing the scents to when the fragrance was listed as an official product on Sephora’s website.

In Kim’s own words, “I always turn to my fans for inspiration and advice. I’m so excited to see what unique, gorgeous designs they come up with. This is such a great opportunity for them to do something fun while giving back to an amazing cause.”

Though a rollerball version of Kim’s fragrance is already sold exclusively at Sephora, the new limited edition version will feature a breast cancer ribbon and a design from one of Kim’s very own fans. Lighthouse Beauty, the company Kim partnered up with to create her perfume, will be donating 10 percent of all limited edition rollerball sales to Young Survival Coalition, an international organization that offers resources and programs to young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Originally founded in 1998 by three young women with breast cancer, the YSC has since worked with a variety of medical groups, legislative communities, caregivers, and survivors to ensure that women get the treatment and emotional support they need to effectively combat this disease. Luckily, the organization now has a world-renowned icon to back their cause with the support of none other than the lovely and unstoppable Kim Kardashian.

The winning design, selected by Kim herself, will be sold at select retailers nationwide in October 2010. In addition to helping out a worthy cause, the grand prize winner will receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend an entire day with Kim and learn how the winning design became a finished product.

Kim is undoubtedly one of the most idolized and sought-after women in Hollywood right now. On top of balancing a successful reality TV career, she is a model, actress, fashion icon, and entrepreneur, backing everything from Quick Trim, a weight loss supplement, to a self-tanning gel called Kardashian Glamour Tan (available exclusively on the Sephora website).

Unsurprisingly, Kim’s fragrance also reflects her sensual, sweet, and alluring nature. Her perfume blends such delicious ingredients as mandarin, orange blossom, pink jasmine, sexy musk, creamy sandalwood, lush gardenia, and vanilla orchid. The floral notes of the perfume capture Kim’s beautiful and endearing nature, while the tonka bean, sandalwood, and jacaranda wood create a strong and sensual base that is sure to turn heads.

While submissions for Kim Kardashian’s rollerball contest have already ended, fans and supporters can still look forward to purchasing a limited edition rollerball in October, when the winner is announced. So what can be better than winning this contest, spending a day with Kim, and also supporting the breast cancer cause?

As Kim puts it on her blog, “Your own design will be on Sephora shelves nationwide, and I’ll be carrying it around in my purse.”

Katherine J. Chen is a sophomore English major at Princeton University pursuing a certificate in Creative Writing. She loves Kim Kardashian’s reality TV show and plans to buy the limited edition rollerball fragrance when it comes out in October!
