Chic Q&A;: A Chick’s Guide to Yellow

With the LA Lakers on all our minds after the epic seven-game battle last week where they reigned victorious, that yellow hued jersey is seen around just about every corner. But yellow has been making a come back before the NBA Finals obvious contribution. From fingernails and makeup to purses and wedges, this sunshine hued color is the perfect outline to the laid-back, playful trends this season has brought us.

But taking the leap to highlighter yellow eye shadow can be a bit challenging, especially when you’re not looking for something absurdly dramatic. Similarly, sunshine gold purses can go from classy to tacky in seconds. But with the right balance between Sunkist glow and simplicity, mixing it into your ensembles and beauty regimen will be easier than styling around riding boots.

This week, Chic Q&A with Cady will show you what all the benefits of wearing yellows can bring:

I like all the bright eyeshadow combinations in ads and on TV, and I’m going to my cousin’s wedding next month, but I’m not sure if it’s an appropriate place to try it out. What can I wear it with so I don’t stand out?

Behind a camera lens, bright, highlighter tones look much better than in everyday life. These Flashdance worthy hues only look great in real life on olive or tanned skin. For fair to medium skin, a canary yellow brings out twinkle in the eyes as well as makes skin appear more sunkissed, and still channels the neon look without beating it to death. Also, since it isn’t so loud, this tint would be the perfect option for your cousin’s wedding! MAC’s Chrome Yellow matte shadow stays put once it’s applied, and is a flattering color for many different skin tones. Look for a forest green dress to set off your fairy-tale toned look.

I have a yellow sundress a friend gave me, but it’s so bright I think I’m too pale to wear it. Any ideas?

Fair skin is always a challenge with brighter, summer shades, especially with the dangers of tanning. But getting the sun-fresh look without the sun is possible- read how here.

But even without the help of tinted lotions, you can mind a brighter yellow work for fair skin with a simple makeup trick. Use a salmon-orange tinted lip and cheek stain to warm your face and lips, making the yellow only highlight your face more. Try Stila’s stain in Mango Crush, a pretty coral.

I bought a headband with yellow feathers layered on the right side. I love it, and it looks very fashion forward, but it’s almost too ahead for me. How can I tone it down?

Instead of rocking this awesome headdress with a night-on-the-town outfit, pair the eye-catching piece with a soft, pastel hued v-neck tee or a carefree linen tulip skirt. Keeping things simple around such a complicated piece will make the look seem more natural and comfortable for you, and for those who see it.
