New Liz Phair Album Funstyle Features Liz Phair Rapping
Liz Phair released a new album, everyone. It is called Funstyle, which, fine! Arguably, some of it is fun—at least, Phair sounds like she is enjoying herself. However, if the object is fun for someone besides Phair, we must refer you to earlier works such as the canonical Exile in Guyville and the criminally underrated whitechocolatespaceegg. The new album contains 11 tracks, which are all available for download via Phair’s Web site for just $5.99. It’s her first release since 2005’s Somebody’s Miracle, and her first since splitting with her label Capitol Records. Everyone agrees Funstyle is strange. “Some of us may even come to enjoy Funstyle, which, if not her worst, is definitely her weirdest,” wrote The Village Voice. Pitchfork characterized the release as “batshit weird,” while TV.com concluded, “[i]t's a weird collection of silliness fine for a joke but not the way to end a career.” |
