She’s hilarious, honest, adorable, and above all else, she’s definitely someone id love to be friends with.  She’s the uber talented Chelsea Handler, and chances are she’s soon to be coming to a city near you.

Handler, the hysterical host of her own late night talk show on E!, Chelsea Lately, has earned major success in the world of television and most recently through her literary endeavors.  Handler has penned three New York Times Bestsellers, all of which are sure to make you actually laugh out loud.

Her latest book of wild tales and all around fun is titled Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, and it quickly climbed to the top of the New York Times Bestsellers list.  Her nationwide tour is going by the same name and much of the material written about in the book is used in Handler’s latest act.

Handler’s Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang tour began in early March and continues throughout the summer.  On the tour, Handler performs in the biggest of cities like Los Angeles and New York, but also makes pit stops in places like Cape Cod and Upstate New York.

If you’ve ever watched Chelsea Lately, it quickly becomes clear that Handler does not shy away from controversy or vulgarity.  In fact, it seems like she welcomes it.  The same is true of Handler’s stand up act.

As Handler recounts the hilarity and shock value that is her life, it’s abundantly obvious that she isn’t afraid of offending anyone or crossing any lines. “Her cheeky candor is one of the things that makes her unique: She’s a hot blonde with a filthy mouth,” says an article about Handler from the Philadelphia Inquirer. She drops F bombs every other word and lets you in on the most personal aspects of her life, some of which you might not want to know.

But that’s the beauty of Handler, she says what she wants about who she wants and doesn’t care if it makes anyone else uncomfortable. That fearless disregard has certainly served her well recently.

Handler frequently mentions on her show and in her books that she likes to drink.  Vodka in particular, Belvedere specifically. While I get a good laugh out of that, I had heard that people who had gone to see Handler’s stand up act ended up being incredibly disappointed because everything she had said about her drinking issues turned out to be true.  Apparently she tried to slur her way sloppily through her act, and failed.

When I saw Handler confidently walk onto the stage with two mysterious red cups in her hands and a big grin on her face I was afraid I might experience a booze induced train wreck. But, I was pleasantly surprised.

I love to watch Handler on her talk show and I loved her stand up act too.  She was gracious, articulate, and just downright funny. Her jokes are so relatable, which just make them all the more humorous and her act absolutely caters to the women in the audience, who greatly outnumber the men in attendance by the way.

Yes, Handler’s life does sound like a string of awkward situations that she clumsily makes her way out of, but by the way Handler unapologetically delivers her punch lines, you get an overwhelming sense that her toughness and capability are qualities to be admired.

Let me warn you now, Handler’s act is raunchy and totally inappropriate, but I think that just makes it all the more fun.

Plus, she’s absolutely endearing.  Handler thanked the audience multiple times for “paying money” to see her, for watching her show, and for buying her book. She even announced to the crowd that she would stay as late as needed to sign whatever anybody wanted.

I got the sense that Handler appreciated being at the show just as much as the audience did, which is rare especially for someone who has earned as much success as Handler has recently.

I personally loved Handler’s act, and I would recommend seeing her live stand up to any chick.  But, I would also add, don’t bring your boyfriend or parents. The show certainly caters to the younger females in the crowd.  I went with one of my closest girlfriends and we had a ball cracking up at Handler’s girl power attitude.

Tickets were a little pricey, but in my opinion seeing Handler live was certainly worth the money.  For more information on tickets visit ticketmaster.com to see if Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang will be coming to your city or town this summer!  I’d be willing to bet you’ll have a great time.

Sarah Friedman is a journalism student at Northeastern University. She hopes to attend more Chelsea Handler shows in the future! It was hilarious!
