Thompson on Hollywood has a report that there are five finalists for the role of Lisbeth Salander and they are all pretty much unknown. Sorry, no Carey Mulligan or Ellen Page.

Daniel Craig is still the first choice for Mikael Blomkvist but they are still figuring out his scheduling issues. I can live with that.

Here are the ladies:

Emily Browning, 22

Sophie Lowe

Sarah Snook

Rooney Mara, 25

There is also a french actress vying for the role but she is as of now unidentified.  Three of the finalists: Browning, Snook and Lowe are Aussies, and Mara is American.

I think its exciting that we will have a virtual unknown in the part.  It is a star making vehicle.  They just better not tone her down…or else.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is scheduled for release on December 21, 2011.
