Ask Patty BlogHer10 New York Mystical Magical M.O.M. Tour
I and 2400 other women converged on New York City last weekend to celebrate BlogHer10 and our womanhood in style. This was my 5th BlogHer Conference and Capital WOW have we grown, over 1000 more BlogHer's
in attendance this year. There were a ton of major brand sponsors
represented each one besting themselves creatively while attempting to capture our imagination, spoil
us with swag galore and work their marketing magic to resonate with us.
Shout out to Lynn Forbes a dear friend who recently landed a gig working for BlogHer as a product strategist! So happy to run into you during the conference and congratulations on your new cool gig.
This year I was the spokesperson for M.O.M, otherwise known as MotorOilMatters.org, an educational site for consumers to learn why your motor oil really does matter. The Mom of MotorOilMatters, Elizabeth Boehm-Miller from Shell, who has an adorable four year old son she collected some cool swag for, Bob Sutherland, Chief Scientist for Pennzoil and Kevin Ferrick of the American Petroleum Institute and myself were all on hand to educate BlogHer's
on why Motor Oil Matters. We were one of only three automotive brands represented as sponsors of BlogHer10. We conducted demo's using kitchen oil and other household products to get our message across and answered a ton of car care questions from women attending. Prior to the event we held a @MotorOilMatters @askpatty Twitter #carcare Party, my hands are still sore from our Pre-BlogHer event and Twittering my way through the conference to catch up with my many BlogHer pals. One of the M.O.M. winners of a $35. oil change gift card was Kelby, organizer and founder of the Type-A Mom conference, picture here>>. Here is a link to my Flickr photo collection of some other winners and the Motor Oil Matters team. I was so touched by the inspiring Morning Keynote and International Activist Blogger Scholarship Recipients. This year's recipients include Esra'a Al Shafei from Bahrain, who is the founder of MidEastYouth.com; Dushiyanthini Pillai from Sri Lanka, who publishes Humanity Ashore; Marie TrigonaFreshta Mom from Argentina, who publishes Latin American Activism; and Basij-Rasikh from Afghanistan, who writes for the Afghan Women's Writing Project. These women actually risk life and limb to get their voices heard, standing ovation! THE SWAG TEMPTATION: It was almost beyond my control really, I just could not resist taking the opportunity to jump in and out of the Motor Oil Matters booth now and again and peruse all of the wonderful swag give-aways, learn about all the products and services on display and claim my BlogHer swag... 'only' for my six grand kids, yeah right LOL. I only brought a small carry on bag so special thanks to sponsors White House Black Market for the great large bag give-away that provided extra carry-on room for my swag with no extra bag charge at the airport. Grand kids are coming tomorrow and cannot wait to give my youngest granddaughter Quincy her Dora the Explorer T-Shirt with her name of it! One of my favorite swag items is the Play-Doh scented perfume, my four very prissy princess-like granddaughters will surely fight over that swag item. A shout out to Sherry of BabyPop, who blogs on "Saving One Backyard at Time",who shared with me one of the most creative solutions to an age old car problem. Her very expensive electronic type car key ring hole broke and to save herself $200 in this tight economy to replace the key costing $200, she created the 1st ever crochet "Key Cozy" pictured here. Love it!
Met so many amazing women at BlogHer, learned what the hot topics, trends and products are with today's women, laughed and cried and hope and wish Tanners TuTu's fund raising efforts succeed to help Tanner make his dreams come true before he dies, a touching real life story on Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy, the disease that is killing Tanner and why all the TuTu's at BlogHer this year. A story about a son with an incurable disease is very close to home maybe too close to home for me. I always enjoy how interested women really are in educating and empowering themselves on car related topics our MotorOilMatters.org booth was packed all day with women's automotive empowered. My other take-away this year is that the BlogHer Conference is now in a large part "Pro" in terms of the number of sponsors who participate attempting to influence women with products and brands. BlogHer10 sponsors were competing and stepping all over themselves to win hearts, minds and positive post BlogHer reviews. I do sort of really miss the earlier smaller BlogHer conference feeling this year. Past years the conference seemed to me to have more time and a different vibe or slower paced environment for intimacy, sharing and making new women friends and connections. Perhaps this is my own fault , next year I will plan differently to take more time for myself for this. The conference for me was truly a "BlogHer10 New York Mystical Magical M.O.M. Tour" for me. I will see you next year at BlogHer 2011 in San Diego.
