Simple and Easy Ways to Relieve Stress Fast
I’m sure it comes as no surprise to you chicks that we live in a hectic, busy world. Our lives are filled with pressure, especially as young women in college or first starting out in the professional world. Sometimes it can feel like everything is resting on your shoulders and of course at a certain point you will probably feel overwhelmed. Anxiety among young women in the United States is becoming increasingly rampant. In Glamour Magazine’s September 2010 issue, Shaun Dreisbach wrote a large spread dedicated to the growing epidemic, entitled Anxiety: The New Young Women’s Health Crisis. “For 40 million Americans, anxiety disorders are debilitating and omnipresent, and women are twice as likely to suffer as men, according to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America,” states the article. ”I think there’s little question that there’s more anxiety today, and that women, in particular, are feeling it,” says JoAnn E. Manson, M.D., chief of the division of preventive medicine at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital. We live in a fast paced world and a lot is expected of us chicks. Even if you’re not suffering from something as serious as an anxiety disorder, unwelcome stress is something that we’ve all been forced to encounter more frequently. But not to fear chicks! There are simple, quick ways to kick stress to the curb when you start to feel a little panicked. Exercise: If you’re anything like me, I always roll my eyes when anybody tells me to work out to make myself feel better. Sometimes it seems easier to just sit and wallow when faced with a problem, but in truth getting up and getting active will do you a world of good. Going for a run can clear your head and help condition your body to better deal with stress. “The physical stress that working out has on the body engages a lot of the same responses that mental stress does,” says Michael Hopkins, a researcher at the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory Laboratory at Dartmouth College. “Your heart beats faster; your blood pressure goes up. Over time, exercise appears to train the body to handle those changes,” as quoted in Glamour Magazine. Another great way to actively relieve anxiety is to engage in exercise devoted to mediation and calming your mind. Yoga has become very popular in recent years and maybe it’s partly because it allows you to take some time to breathe and center yourself. “When we perform yoga, we bring our focus inside our body, we listen to our breathing so that we feel that our muscle groups are stretched and they are looking for weaknesses. It kills frustration, stress and anger,” according to an article on itechtalk.com. Get creative: Indulge yourself with homemade stress busting remedies. Let yourself unwind in a bubble bath filled with great smelling bath oil that you can make yourself. Aroma-therapists know how to easily use scents to create a sexy relaxing mood. The power of scents can be very seductive and healing,” says an article on eHow.com. Click this link for the easy directions and ingredients! Make your own manicure soak! If you lack the time or motivation to embark on these projects or exercise, you can at least eat in a way that will help cut back on some of your anxiety throughout the day. According to the Better Homes and Gardens website, some foods that tremendously cut down on stress are asparagus, beef, milk, cottage cheese with fruit, almonds, blueberries, tuna, and crispy rice cereal. So next time you’re in the supermarket go for these kinds of snacks. And remember, stress is easy to manage, just listen to what your body needs and take the time you deserve to relax.
