Former NYC health commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg has been picked to head the Food and Drug Administration. Hamburg, New York City’s former health commissioner (1991 to 1997), will face quite the task when asked to clean up the $2 billion agency. The FDA has failed in recent months to prevent a salmonella outbreak among peanut products and to properly monitor products coming in from abroad.
