Dear So and So: Library Fines

Dear Library Fines,

I write to tell you that you scare me. I know I don’t have the best memory. And when I do remember that you are overdue (thank you e-mailed notifications!) I am sometimes too lazy to return the books. Sorry.

But back to why you scare me. You know I don’t return books frequently and I put it off over the holiday season because in the past you have caused me and my wallet over $50 in pain. I was scared. I got letters. My family got calls. I felt like creditors were after me rather than the friendly, kind, neighborhood library clerk always ready to assist me in finding a book. I longed to check out a book again but money got tight and the appeal of paying an astronomical amount in fines that I could have prevented was slight.

Eventually my book addiction got the better of me. I missed the library; I missed the rows and rows of books and the musty cleaner smell that calms my nerves (you know you love it too bibliophiles). I went online, logged into my account, clicked the “fines” button, closed my eyes and….

Only that much?!?! Whew.

I knew you cared Library Fines.

Till We Meet Again,

Grateful but Wary

I don’t know who came up with “Dear So and So” first, but I like the long-form concept and I’m bringing it to Tipsy Reader every Saturday (or at least most). For one of THE BEST sites for short dear so and sos visit Dear Blank Please Blank. So funny. Lots of Harry Potter references too!
