Roxy Chicken Jam 2011 winners
Despite difficult weather conditions, resulting in the largest snowfall in Mammoth history (12 – 15 ft), some of the best female boarders in the world came to Mammoth Mountain to compete in the 7th annual Roxy Chicken Jam. Kelly Marren from Hiillsborough CA took the top spot in the halfpipe competition on Friday, March 25th winning the $15,000 prize purse. Kelly threw flips on both walls – a frontside crippler and a Michaelchuck on the backside wall for the win. But the event belonged to the newcomers as Leslie Glenn from Breckenridge CO and Chloe Kim, a ten-year-old phenom, from La Palma CA came in second and third. Kim made her debut at Chicken Jam with a McTwist and frontside and backside 5’s. The Slopestyle event was cancelled due to the extreme conditions, but despite the fact that Mother Nature threw the event a curve, everyone enjoyed the fresh powder. With so many talented riders all in one place, Roxy improvised and introduced the Powder Jam 2011 video contest. Riders were teamed up in groups of three and equipped with Go Pro cameras. Teams will be judged on style, creativity and skill. We gave them the following tasks: air&style, line and jib. The teams that come back with the best footage will be awarded on an individual and team basis. The winner will be announced on April 11th, along with the purse prize and featured on roxy.com! Since 2004, the RCJ has been the original and most prestigious stand-alone women’s snowboarding competition. The event attracts thousands of spectators, industry people and some of the best female riders in the world including 2010 Gold Medalist Torah Bright. With a 22ft Halfpipe and massive Slopestyle course and $50K prize purse, the event takes women’s snowboarding to the next level! The RCJ has evolved into a three-day festival including on and off-hill activities, Mammoth’s Stomping Grounds Evolution Park with an Acrobag to train, an on-snow sponsor tent village, the guys Quiksilver Cluck Off Big Air Invitational, the hilarious Mascot Halfpipe contest and of course, LA ROUX live in concert for FREE!
