Joining us today to celebrate the release of her new book No One to Trust is Julie Moffett! Yay! She has kindly taken the time to answer a few questions, but first a tasty blurb of Lexi #2 to whet your appetite:

“SWFG: Single, White, Female, Geek.

That’s me, Lexi Carmichael, a reformed hacker who was gainfully employed by the National Security Agency. But a series of extraordinary events led me to leave government life behi…nd for a fresh start with a brand-new company and an incredibly sexy boss, Finn Shaughnessy. It may not be kosher to have the hots for your boss, but he seems to have the hots for me, too. If only things didn’t get so complicated…

Darren Greening, a genius researcher from Flow Technologies (our first client!) is missing, and his bosses think I’m involved. And they aren’t the only ones—the man who nearly snapped my neck in the parking garage thinks so, too.

Now I’m caught in the middle of a complex and dangerous case. I’ll have to use all my geek skills and a little help from my friends to solve the mystery of Darren’s disappearance before Neck-Snapping-Man makes a return visit…”

All your readers can’t deny the Lexi series is sexy and fun, but what pushed you to start writing mystery (without hot and heavy scenes) after so many years of romance?
The character of Lexi just came to me one day and so I built a story (and a series) around her. I had written historical romances for many years and had a desire to write something contemporary and funny. I LOVE when a book makes me laugh out loud and I wanted to try my hand at providing the same kind of entertainment. It isn’t an easy thing to do as humor can be very tricky to write. But it is SO worth it! I love those e-mails, tweets or FB comments that let me know that I managed to tickle a reader’s funny bone and provide a few hours of reading enjoyment.

Why did you decide to publish exclusively through e-readers?
No One Lives Twice is a really hard book to market. It’s not really a straight romance, mystery or romantic comedy. It’s a combination of all these things. That is a daunting task for the Marketing Department at a traditional publisher. I really felt I had to let the book get out there, find it’s wings and hopefully some fans as well. For me, the choice was easy. Digital is fast, fun and viral. Plus, it fit right in with my cyber-sleuthing theme. Carina has been really great to work with and I don’t regret my decision for a minute.

What’s the hardest part of writing the Lexi series and how do you overcome that?
Lexi is a consistently inconsistent character. She’s brilliant, but clueless on most social fronts. She has a desire to be womanly and sexy, but is self-aware enough to know that these are not her strong suits. She’s both lacking in confidence and yet can be supremely self-confident, depending on the situation. I adore her. In No One Lives Twice, she’s beginning to come into her own. The attention of all the sexy guys is both flattering and suspicious. Who can she trust? I’ve written two series before this one and the biggest challenge is making sure your characters show growth. Some reviewers have complained that Lexi is too hard or unsure of herself in the first book, but learning to accept herself and work on her weaknesses is part of the growth arc that I’ll explore in future books.

I hear for the third Lexi book she’s going to Rome — did you get to travel there?
I’ve been all over Europe and even spent a year abroad studying at the University of Warsaw, but I have never been to Rome. But for those of you following the series, Slash is Italian. The tentative title of book #3 in the series is No Place Like Rome. This is intended to be a deeper character study of both Lexi and Slash as well as their relationship. I’m having a blast writing it and I hope the fans like it, too!

Because here at Tipsy Reader we love our concoctions, what’s your favorite drink — alcoholic or otherwise — and why?
I’m such a pina colada girl! Gotta have that paper umbrella! Although I do enjoy an occasional margarita (with salt) or a glass of white merlot. Thanks for having me!!

We loved having you Julie, thank YOU! With both books under $6 on both the Kindle and Nook, go ahead and splurge. You won’t regret falling in love with Moffett’s charming writing and quirky characters!

Don’t have a Kindle or Nook? Both have free apps you can download to your smartphone or tablet.
