Women Talk Sports Twitter Lounge

As many of you know, I am one of the co-founders of WomenTalkSports.com, so I am a bit biased when I write this post. However, our site has grown tremendously, and our new Twitter Lounge resource is so good that I felt the need to write about it in an effort to spread the word.

If you’re not already aware, WomenTalkSports.com is a female sports blog network that was created in early February of this year by myself (chief marketer), Ann Gaffigan at Steeplechics (chief tech director, who literally built the site from scratch) and Jane Schonberger of Pretty Tough (chief editor).

We created WomenTalkSports.com because we knew that there was not much discussion of female athletes online or offline, and we wanted to come together with other advocates and provide that voice. Each day, we acquire new members to our community (we’re now over 30 blogs), and together, we represent  a variety of sports, professions and interests in the women’s athletic industry.

WomenTalkSports.com promotes a variety of articles from our community on a daily basis, and we also syndicate and promote the very best “news from around the web” articles on women’s sports. All of our content is also promoted through Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed and LinkedIn.

We developed our Twitter lounge rather organically about a month ago to help us keep track of all the new professional female athletes joining the microblogging service. Personally, I’ve been totally psyched to see that these women are taking control of their images and disclosing their personalities by talking about themselves and responding directly to fans. It’s a great thing for the industry when fans become a part of the discussion.

The Twitter lounge is a population of all pro athletes, coaches and industry personalities categoriazed within individual sports. Within our Lounge, you can see everyone’s conversations, and often times, you even see the athletes communicating with each other. So far in the Lounge we have categories of:

Pro Athletes
Action Sports
Basketball
Football
Golf
Gymnastics
Soccer
Softball
Tennis
Track & Field
Other Sports
Editors Picks

I’m interested in hearing everyone’s thoughts on this new tool, and look forward to hearing new ideas you may have. If you’re interested, feel free to embed our Pro Athletes on Twitter widget (proudly displayed on my sidebar), which you can get here.

Also, if you have any ideas or know of any great bloggers, athletes, coaches or fans who would like to become a part of our new network, please contact us.
